🎮 LVL Up 1 - Triangulation, Moving Slowly, Updates From Me
What can Albert Einstein teach us about life? Understand how Triangulation is the foundation of learning learning how to learn .
Welcome to the first edition of leveling up. I decided to pivot this newsletter from focusing more on my journey to instead sharing more practical knowledge, such as mental models and productivity hacks, every Monday.
🔺 Triangulation: The learning superpower
How triangulation empowers you:
Use what you know to make sense of stuff. Use 2 points to understand a third point:
For example, imagine you are on the swim team (1st point), and you have a basic understanding of what oxygen is and its importance (2nd point). During class, you connect these two things (triangulate) to learn about and form a new third point: aerobic exercise. You can grasp the concept much easier because you have the basic knowledge (oxygen) and a real-life experience (swimming).
This is essentially how we learn: connecting what we don't know to stuff we do know.
Use what you know to remember old stuff. Use two points to remember a third point:
Use what you know to create new stuff. Use two points to imagine a third point:
The better you triangulate, the faster you can move in the world of ideas.
🐢 Move Slowly, then Quickly
The danger of pursuing many good things in life is not having the time to pursue great things. Therefore, a rule of thumb: Move slowly when choosing what to focus on. But move quickly and execute once you've decided.
It's not that I'm so smart. It's just that I stay with problems longer." - Albert Einstein
🤳 Business / Creator Economy Snippet
Ourfuturestories just sold to Morningbrew for an undisclosed amount of money. Started by a kid from the University of Michigan who simply began sharing well-edited business stories on Tik Tok. Posted daily for two years and is now reaping what he sowed. The "media company" has garnered more attention than companies such as Bloomberg and Forbes.
I'm doing something very similar with BuildQuest, but primarily focusing on Gen Z builders and creators.
I believe this model can be applied in almost any niche and doesn't require any technical ability. You can either edit the videos yourself or delegate them.
👨💻 Update From Me
So I graduated last May but moved back in this past Sunday. My co-founder's roommate left to go study abroad and an opportunity to work side by side on a product is crucial for the success of a startup.
Like most people, I'm too comfortable when I'm at home, so I'm looking forward to the next couple of months leveling up here.
For those curious, it's an AI writing tool (chrome extension) that allows you to have the power of ChatGPT everywhere—going to continue sharing short updates every week like this on the progress!
📚 Favorite Stuff From Last Week
📄 The advantage of being a little unemployed: With a recession lurking, this article is more important to read than ever.
🎙 Podcast episode: Garyvee on the Diary of a CEO, love him or hate him this episode is 100% worth listening to.
📘 Book: Currently reading Dopamine Nation by Anne Lembke. Highly recommend especially if you're feeling demotivated or depressed.
Until next week, stay curious.
I didn't know directly about the concept of triangulation. I use it subconsciously without knowing the name for it, thanks for sharing!
